Welcome To Arkansas
Allreds and Allred descendants were among some of the first white settlers in the proud state of Arkansas. John Allred was born in Randolph County, NC, but moved to Tennessee as a young adult. In 1827, when John was around 55 years old, he took his family and left Tennessee by ox wagon. They traveled west, finally settling in northwest Arkansas in the area now known as Dry Fork (Carroll County). John and his wife, Phoebe Thompson, raised six children including Johnathan Allred (1820 - 1895). Many descendants still live in the area. (Johnathan and wife Susannah are buried at Hopewell Cemetery, Carroll County, Arkansas. From Osage, take HWY 103 south towards Compton. Cemetery is on the right about 5 miles south of Osage.)

The Life of Elizabeth Frances Bartlett Allred
Hello, all. My Allred family came through Arkansas. We visited the Osage (Newton County), AR area last week and stumbled upon this old general store and post office building. The business is a pottery shop now but the owner has the original ledger books from 1902 forward. There were many Allreds listed in the books. The old mail boxes now house goods for sale but the names of the last residents are still visible on each box. The owner was more than happy to show his antiques.
