1878-1952
Lineage: Nancy, Andrew, Andrew, Andrew, Thomas, Solomon, Solomon born 1680 Lancashire, England
Nancy Jane "Nan" Allred Akins was born March 22, 1878 in Culman, Alabama. She first appears on the 1880 census with her parents and siblings:
Her Great Granddaughter, Claudette Mason, was only 3 years old when Nancy died but remembers:
"I was around 3 when my Great Grandmother died. They had her body at her daughter Audrey Short's home. I actually remember seeing her in her casket but I didn't really understand what was going on. Her maiden name was Nancy Jane Allred. Nancy married Christopher Columbus Akins. My Grandmother was Nola Belle Akins, she married William Oscar Browning. My Daddy was James Aulton Browning. My maiden name is Claudette Browning.
My cousin Jan, who now lives in Mobile. Her grandmother was Nancy's daughter, Audrey Akins Short. Nancy and her husband Christopher moved in with Audrey and her husband when they were to old to live by themselves, so Jan actually knew Nancy. Jan just told me that she was 4 when Nancy died and that it was 1952.
I would love to learn more about her but now there's really no one to ask now since all of my Daddy and his brother and two sisters are gone."
From Avery Allred: "This is my grandpa Ocie Allred's brother William David "Jake" Allred and his wife Martha Jane Akins Allred. She was a sister of Christopher Columbus Akins. When I was growing up, he was always referred to as "Uncle Jake".
